Claim settlement is the process that starts with filing a claim and ends with the claim being settled or rejected. Awareness of the right claim process and documents required is necessary to avoid claim rejections. Digit is a digital first insurance provider which has enabled most of its operations through its mobile app. In this page, we will cover Digits claim settlement process, types of claim settlements, documents required, and the significance of No Claim Bonus.

Claim settlement Ratio of Digit Car insurance

The claim settlement ratio determines the efficiency of claims settled by an insurer. Digit recorded a 96% claim settlement ratio for private cars in FY 2023-24.

Types of Digit Claim Settlement Process

Claim settlement with Digit is very simple. You have the option to either take your car for repair to a cashless garage or any other garage of your choice. Both of these approaches have different processes.

1. Cashless Claim Settlement Process

Cashless garages are the ones that have ties with Digit. Digit has more than 6,000 cashless garages all over India. In this process, you either take your car to the nearest cashless garage or ask Digit to arrange a pickup. You will not need to pay any amount for any service, part or repair that is mentioned in your policy document as the insurer will pay directly to the garage.

2. Reimbursement Claim Settlement Process

The reimbursement process allows you to get your car repaired at a garage of your choice which is not tied up with Digit. In this process, you need to get your car repaired by paying from your pocket and Digit later reimburses you after you submit the required documents. Note that the payment will be only for the details mentioned in the policy document.

Digit Claim Intimation

Claim intimation is the first step and is important. It should be done immediately after damage is done. To file your claim you can:

How to File a Digit Car Insurance Claim?

There are various steps that need to be followed on the basis of circumstances. The most common claim settlement processes are:

Third-party claim

In case you have injured someone or damaged their property by your car, you are liable to pay compensation which is covered by your third-party liability policy. Follow the given steps:

  1. The third-party must file an FIR at the nearest police station.
  1. Share your policy details with the third-party so they can contact your insurer.
  1. Intimate Digit and tell them about the incident in detail.
  2. Digit will appoint a surveyor who will review and examine your case.
  1. The case will then be transferred to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) where the compensation amount will be declared and then Digit will settle the claim.

Cases of Theft

In case your car gets stolen, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. Lodge an FIR with the police.
  1. Intimate Digit about the theft.
  1. Police will first try to trace your car. If they are unable to track, they will issue a non-traceable certificate. Submit it to Digit to get the claim for your car.

Claim Process of Digit Car Insurance

To file a Digit car insurance claim, follow the given steps:

  • Intimate the claim: Intimate the claim by calling 1800-258-5956 or writing an email to hello@godigit.com.
  1. Self Inspection: You will receive a link on your registered mobile number to complete the self-inspection process.
  1. Shoot Videos: Take photos and videos of the damages on your car with the help of a guided step-by-step process.
  1. Approval: After the survey, the Digits team will approve the claim and you can take your car to a garage.

Documents Required for Digit Claim Process

The following documents are required in the process of settling a claim:

  • Claim form filled in and signed
  • A copy of your Vehicles R.C.
  • A copy of the Driving License of the person driving at the time of the accident
  • Images of damages to car
  • Copy of first 2 pages of policy documents
  • Copy of FIR ( if applicable)
  • Certificate of non-traceable ( in case of theft)
  • Original invoice ( in case of reimbursement)
  • Original payment receipt (in case of reimbursement)

Digit No Claim Bonus

NCB or No Claim Bonus is a reward for claimless policy tenure. NCB is applied on the next premium. The discount increases for consecutive claim free policies. The discount only applies to the own damage portion of the premium.

Details

  • No claim bonus can be easily transferred in case you plan to change your insurer.
  • The maximum NCB you can get is 50% of your Own Damage premium, which you get after 5 years of insurance without taking any claim.
  • In case you change your car, NCB is transferable provided the new car belongs to the same class (as per the tariff) as the old car.

    • After the first year of insurance without filing a claim, you get a 20% discount.
    • No claim bonus is calculated on your own damage premium only.
    • NCB is rewarded to you, not your car. So it stays with you even if you purchase a new car.

    Limitations

    • In case you don't renew your policy in 90 days after expiry, you will lose your NCB.

    The Grievance Redressal Cell: In case you are not satisfied with the response from customer support, you can elevate your query to the grievance redressal cell. You can do this by writing a mail to Mr. Praveen Bhat who is grievance redressal officer at grievance@godigit.com.

    Common Digit Car Insurance Claim Rejection Reasons

    Digit General Insurance has set some standards that every policyholder needs to follow to settle a claim. The insurer rejects the claim under the following circumstances:

    • When the accident occurred while the driver was under the influence of intoxicants.
    • When the car was being driven in the absence of a valid license-holder present, by a novice driver with a learner’s license.
    • When false evidence was provided.
    • When there is no evidence to prove the occurrence of the accident.
    • Damage due to mindful negligence on the part of the driver.

    Digit No Claim Bonus

    Digit General Insurance offers a No Claim Bonus (NCB) to its policyholders for every year in which they did not make any claim. It is a discount on the amount of premium that ranges between 20% to 50% and is something you earn at the end of your car insurance policy period by driving safely throughout and maintaining a record of raising no car accident claims. This clears that NCB is zero when you buy a comprehensive car insurance plan and you earn it to avail only on your policy renewal and it increases with every claim-free policy year.

    A No Claim Bonus is a reward that is provided to the car insurance policyholder for safe driving and not to the insured car or any other vehicle. On this note, even if you switch your car, your NCB stays with you. Therefore, if you decide to buy a new car, you will be issued a new car insurance policy, but you can still avail of the NCB you accumulated on the old car or policy. However, to keep your NCB benefit intact, you must timely renew your car insurance policy and must refrain from making any small claims by bearing them on your own.
