Religare Files Complaint against Calls Made by Fake Insurance Company Agents
Care Health Insurance formerly Religare Health Insurance Company Ltd., located on Golf Course Road, Gurugram, filed a complaint with the cyber crime police station concerning calls made by unidentified individuals. Religare said they have received over 200 calls by their customer care centers, alleging that personal information of the policyholders was illegally obtained by a few conmen, posing as Religare’s representatives.
The fraud involved some unidentified persons calling up unsuspecting policyholders of Care Health Insurance formerly Religare Health Insurance Company Ltd. and informing them that the terms and conditions of their health insurance policies have been changed. The fake Religare insurance agents also announced that the premiums of their policies have increased and the policyholders won’t be able to claim the complete insurance amount, owing to the changes made by the company. A few days later, the policyholders received calls from the same unidentified individuals, who posed as agents from another insurance company offering to port their policies to the latter to reap various benefits.
An FIR, under Section 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the IT Act and Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by personation), and 420 (cheating) of the IPC was filed at the cyber crime police station in Gurugram.
