Oxford Scientists Preparing Vaccine Versions for Covid Variants
Recently reports of Oxford scientists preparing for the production of new versions of AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine are doing rounds. Scientists are preparing different covid-19 vaccine variants so as to fight the emerging, more contagious coronavirus variants discovered in the UK, South Africa and Brazil.
Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, on January 20 said that the nation’s medicines regulator will be prepared and able to give the new vaccine versions approval.
As per a British newspaper, the team behind the novel coronavirus vaccine from Oxford and AstraZeneca Plc is taking feasibility studies to reconfigure the technology. According to the report, the scientists were trying to figure out the time in which they could reconfigure their ChAdOx vaccine platform.
An Oxford University spokesman confirmed that Oxford is performing a careful assessment of the impact of new variants on vaccine immunity. Moreover, evaluation of the processes needed for rapid development of adjusted coronavirus vaccines is also being performed.
