India Will Prioritize Sri Lanka While Supplying Covid-19 Vaccine
India is ready to go along with giving priority to Sri Lanka while supplying its coronavirus vaccines to other countries. The same was confirmed by S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister to Gotabaya Rajapaksa, The President of Sri Lanka. It is to be noted that the SriLankan president had expressed his wish of obtaining the Indian Covid-19 vaccine to S. Jaishankar.
According to a statement, India and Sri Lanka, other than vaccines for novel coronavirus, have talked about further cooperation areas, including the Colombo port's eastern container terminal. A political controversy regarding the port’s proposed deal has been going on in the recent weeks as trade unions of Rajapaksa's own party are against the deal. During a meeting, S.Jaishankar and Gotabaya Rajapaksa also discussed ongoing Indian projects in Sri Lanka. Ways to revive tourism in the two countries were also talked about in the meeting.
Currently, S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister is on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka from January 5 to 7. This is the first visit by a foreign dignitary to Sri Lanka in the year 2021.
