Health Insurance to Cover Expenses incurred on AYUSH Treatments too?
In a draft issued by the insurance regulator, norms have been set for a standard health insurance product. The products considered provide basic sum insured options ranging between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 10 Lakh and define the structure for customers purchasing policies on an individual basis without any restriction on upper age limit. However, the minimum age limit has been decided on 18 years for principal insured, and the maximum entry age has been decided on 65 years with lifelong renewability as an added advantage and no limit on maximum exit age. Also, a standard health insurance plan will be made available on an indemnity basis and as a standalone health insurance product. One cannot combine it with critical illness or benefit based covers.
The basic plan will also provide cover for expenses arising from AYUSH treatments. These are-Ayurveda, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy systems of treatment. However, these will be subject to fixed and standard sub-limits depending on the sum insured.
Apart from this, a standard policy will provide cover for in-patient hospitalisation expenses that comprises of room, nursing, Intensive Cardiac Care Unit expenses, ICU charges, dental treatment in some cases and plastic surgery in some cases. However, 5% of co-payment shall be part of the product features.
