Coronavirus Vaccine Status In India

COVID-19 Vaccine Status - Until 15th May 2020, the pandemic declared coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected nearly 4.4 Million people from around the world. And the numbers are increasing rapidly. But there is still no cure for the highly infectious disease.

Amid difficult times, there are three possibilities lying ahead: The communities develop immunity against the virus, the invention of a drug to contain the disease, or the development of a vaccine.

There are around hundreds of research groups from around the world that are racing to develop the coronavirus vaccine and we all are awaiting some good news.

So First, What Is A Vaccine?

A vaccine is a biological product that is entered into the body to behave against toxins released by the pathogen. The immune system with the help of the vaccine identifies the disease-causing pathogen and analyses the most effective way to fight back.

How Is A Vaccine Developed?

It takes years to develop a vaccine. It is researched, followed by testing on animals, and then tested on humans. The safety check for the vaccine is done in three phases-firstly where people in small groups receive the trial vaccine, then it is analysed who all are witnessing characteristics similar for which the vaccine was intended, then the vaccine is injected into thousands of people. Then at a later stage, the researchers analyse post-marketing data.

Why Is The Coronavirus Vaccine Important?

The coronavirus is a highly infectious disease and hence most of the people in the world are vulnerable to it. A vaccine will help to protect people’s immune system by fighting the virus and protecting them from becoming sick. It will ensure a smooth lift from the lockdown and bring some relief in the social distancing practices as well.

When Will We Have The Coronavirus Vaccine?

Normally it takes years to develop a vaccine. Some might take decades as well. But the researchers believe that they are likely to develop a coronavirus vaccine by mid-2021. This will be around 12-18 months after the virus emerged first in China’s Wuhan. However, there is no guarantee of the same.

The virus shows symptoms like headache, cough, difficulty in breathing, fever, loss of smell or taste, intense chills, and muscle pain and we are looking forward to having a vaccine that cures all of them.

Which Countries Are Working To Develop The Coronavirus Vaccine?

China, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, and even India are in a race to develop the coronavirus vaccine.

Germany has a vaccine named BNT162 in the clinical trial stage.

Pharmaceutical giants Sanofi and GSK have come together to develop the coronavirus vaccine.

NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) is developing a vaccine named mRNA-1273 with a biotech company Moderna.

Novavax has developed another vaccine named NVX-COV2373. It will proceed with testing on humans after doing it on animals. More than a hundred Australians have come forward to be tested for the vaccine.

But, no one knows how effective any of these vaccines will be.

Bottom Line!

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. And the coronavirus vaccine may be the silver lining we’ve been searching for so long.

But until a vaccine is ready, everyone must follow some preventive measures to stay safe amid the coronavirus outbreak. These precautions include practicing social distancing, consulting a doctor in case of symptoms, following proper hand hygiene, and wearing a mask if required.

Also, purchasing a health insurance plan that covers expenses for coronavirus treatment is a must right now. It will help you financially in case you or any of your family members get infected.
