What kinds of Car insurance policies are available with Oriental Insurance?

The basic insurance covers offered are:


  • Liability Only Policy: This policy is mandatory for every vehicle owner. It covers the liabilities towards third parties only, as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Package Policy: In addition to the benefits of the Liability Only Policy, this also covers damages to your vehicle, owing to an accident. Moreover, one can also use add-ons for extra protection.

What will be the premium for my vehicle?

Premium depends upon a number of factors viz. type, make, model, cc, usage, place of registration, past claims history etc. of the vehicle. It is therefore, advisable to contact the company’s underwriting office with vehicle’s details for the exact premium amount.

Why do I need to renew my vehicle’s insurance policy?

Every insurance policy has a fixed tenure post which the policy needs to be renewed to meet regulatory obligations. Apart from this, one should renew one’s policy as accidents are uncertain and having an active insurance policy helps mitigate financial liabilities. Furthermore, you will also retain your No Claim Bonus–the hard-earned discount, in premium for claim free year(s).

Can I transfer the insurance policy to the buyer of my vehicle?

Yes, the insurance policy is transferable. You need to submit a fresh proposal form and the company will charge a nominal fee.

What if I have installed the LPG/CNG kit in my vehicle?

Installing LPG/CNG kit is permissible by the RTO-means. However, it should be registered with the RTO and mentioned by them in your RC. Then, you need to approach the insurance company and declare it to them with a copy of the RC.

Note: Additional premium is payable for the vehicle with LPG/CNG kit.

How can I pay premium online?

At first, you need to register yourself as a customer on the company’s online portal by providing basic details. Thereafter, you will gain access to all the features including the option to pay premium online and even renewal of the policy.

I want to know the risks covered and the terms and conditions of the policy?

Can I avail tax benefits under covers like Personal Accident rider?

No, there are no tax benefits for premiums paid under this type of covers

I have lost my Oriental car insurance policy, what to do next?

You should approach the same branch from where you bought the policy. You can get a duplicate policy against a nominal fee

Can I choose the amount of the premium?

While the premium is calculated as per the underwriting guidelines of the company, one can always choose the coverage, add-ons, as well as the insured declared value (within certain limits) which impacts the premium.

Renewal

How much time does it take for policy renewal after payment?

Post making renewal fee payment, the policy is renewed instantly. You will get a confirmation email and SMS for the same along with a digitally signed renewal document.

Can I opt for add-on covers while renewing my car insurance policy?

Yes, you can modify your add-ons at the time of renewal but only if your existing car insurance policy was issued by Oriental Insurance. However, to modify non-Oriental car insurance policies, you have to renew it from the respective insurer’s website.

I was supposed to get NCB discount post first renewal. Why am I not getting that?

The issue might be because of the fact that you had filed a claim in the last tenure. However, if you last tenure has gone claim-free and you are still not getting the NCB discount, contact Oriental Insurance at 011-3320-8485.

Claim

Do I have to pay for repairs even after making an insurance claim?

Yes, you remain liable to pay for the compulsory deductibles and voluntary deductible if opted for at the time of policy purchase along with the depreciation cost in case of no zero depreciation add-on cover.

Which type of add-on covers will help me to get higher claims?

The add-on covers which extends the standard coverage will help in getting higher claims. Example- Zero Depreciation, Engine Cover, etc.

What additional things do I need to furnish to the company for claim settlement in case of theft of the insured vehicle?

Apart from the necessary documents, you will be required to submit the entire set of vehicle keys, the Final Report – No Trace Report for the lost vehicle, Indemnity Bond as well as the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the financer in case of theft of the vehicle.

What if someone else was driving my car when the accident occurred?

If someone else such as a hired driver or anyone has committed an accident while driving your car, you will still be entitled to file a claim. This is because a car insurance policy insures a car and not the driver.

Is it mandatory to buy a car insurance policy?

The Indian Motor Tariff mandates every car owner to have at least a car insurance policy in place. Also, the importance of this insurance cannot be undermined as it frees the insurance from all unforeseen financial burden towards a third party due to an accident involving the insured’s car.

How do I benefit from buying a car insurance policy online?

Ease of comparison of various insurance policies, paperless policy proposal and online payment mechanisms make way for seamless and hassle-free buying of insurance are some of the benefits which one avails while purchasing a policy online.

My car just crashed against a scooter causing the latter’s driver to sustain grievous injuries. How do I file a third-party insurance claim?

You may make a claim by either logging on to the insurance company’s website or calling the insurer’s customer care centre for the same.

Can I avail NCB discount with a third party car insurance policy?

Unfortunately, No Claim Bonus (NCB) discount cannot be availed with a third party car insurance policy.

Comprehensive

My vehicle broke down in the middle of the road. Since I was in a hurry, I could not take it to an authorised garage for repairs. Can I still claim insurance for the same?

It is fine if you had to take your vehicle to an unauthorised garage for repairs. However, it is important that you intimate the same to the insurer and get your vehicle inspected by the company’s surveyor before starting any repair work on the car. Without the necessary survey, the insurer is unable to assess the quantum of loss and, thus, evaluate the extent of the claim amount that must be disbursed.

If my car meets with an accident outside the city in which I got it registered, will I still be able to make an insurance claim?

If you have bought an Oriental comprehensive car insurance policy, then you can avail the claim amount for any loss/damage caused to your car anywhere in India.

Is it necessary to have a comprehensive insurance cover?

No, it is not a legal requirement to have a comprehensive car insurance cover, however, it is advised to cover for all car owners as it provides coverage for not only third party liabilities but also for damages incurred by the insured’s car in a road accident or any other mishap.

Is it possible to transfer a comprehensive car insurance from one car to another?

No, transfer of any car insurance policy, including a comprehensive cover, from an insured car to another is not possible.

Which add-on covers s I buy to enhance my car insurance cover?

The choice of add-on cover depends on your requirements. What is not covered under Zero Depreciation Cover?

Zero Depreciation Cover does not secure the vehicle against engine damage due to oil spillage or water ingression. In addition, it does not cover against mechanical breakdown, consumption of consumables.

Is it true that insurance companies allow zero depreciation cover to new cars only?

Most insurance companies prefer to avail zero depreciation cover only to new cars or those that are less than five years old. However, different insurance companies allow different car age limits for zero depreciation cover.

Who should buy a zero depreciation cover?

Every car owner is advised to opt for a zero depreciation cover, however, it is more advisable for the following: New car owners New drivers People driving in accident prone areas People who get bothered by even small scratches Owners of car with expensive parts.
