Why do I need to fill up the proposal form for buying Insurance?
A proposal form is a contract between the insured and the insurer, which contains relevant and necessary details about the insured, his past policy and his vehicle details. It is, therefore, necessary to fill in correct details in the proposal form for future reference/proof.
I have my vehicle’s registration number, how can I get my policy number?

I have purchased my policy from a Maruti dealer and I am unable to renew the policy online

Can I pay my car insurance premium online?
Yes, you can pay the premium online using any Debit/Credit card or Net Banking.
What are the documents required to file a claim with New India Car Insurance?
Documents to be submitted at the time of filing a claim are :
- Document such as claim intimation received by the insurer
- Copy of policy and receipt of payment of premium
- Completed claim form
- A copy of the driving license
- Certificate of registration of the vehicle
- An estimate of repairs and a stamped receipt from the repairer
- Bills of repairs that have already been done at approved garages
- Road tax verification
- Copy of Police FIR along with the original (for verification)
- Fitness Certificate, etc.( in applicable cases).
What is the coverage provided under the Solatium Fund Scheme?
The scheme was introduced by the Central government to compensate for the ‘Hit and Run’ victims. In case of death, the compensation amount in Rs 25,000 and for serious injuries, the amount is Rs 12,500.

Why do I need to purchase a third-party liability insurance policy?
First and foremost, a third-party liability insurance policy is mandatory as per law. Secondly, it insures your vehicle against third-party liabilities that include injury/death of a person and even property damage. Moreover, the liability only policy sold by New India Assurance also offers personal accident cover to policyholder.
What is not covered under a third-party liability policy?
Generally, third-party liability policy does not cover the vehicle itself against any sort of damage.. New India third party car insurance also insures the policyholder (in case personal accident cover is opted for).
Can I renew my policy online?
Yes, you can renew your car insurance policy online via debit/credit card or net banking. Place a call at 7551196989 (Insurancedekho) to know the process in detail.
Is there any way to get a duplicate copy of my car insurance policy?
Yes, if you have lost your policy, then you can avail a duplicate copy of same against a minimal charge. You need to submit a written application to the company in order to avail a duplicate copy.
Is it necessary to lodge an FIR after an accident?
Yes, it is necessary to lodge an FIR at the nearest police station and a copy of the same needs to be submitted to the company.

What if I am eligible for GST exemption?
Car insurance premiums are actually calculated with applicable ‘Goods & Services Tax’. In case you are eligible for GST exemption, you will have to submit relevant documents (GST certificate) at the nearest New India Assurance branch or enter your GST number while renewing your car insurance policy online. This will revise your car insurance renewal cost and deduct the GST amount from it.
How can I check my policy renewal payment status?
To check your payment status for car insurance policy renewal, you can visit the website of the New India and click on the ‘Check Payment Status’ option under the Quick Help tab. Enter the respective Quote No. and Order ID of your car insurance to proceed and you will get the status of your policy renewal.

What is No Claim Bonus (NCB)?
NCB is a discount offered to a policyholder when no claim is filed during the tenure of the policy. Moreover, the discount accumulates over the years (up to 5 years) for every claim-free year.
What is Underwriting?
It is an assessment of material facts and the risks to decide whether to accept an insurance contract and also the rate of premium.
How does comprehensive plan differ from a third-party liability policy?
A comprehensive policy offers much more than basic third-party liability coverage. Besides covering third-party liability, it also covers the vehicle against for its own damages incurred in an accident or any other mishap.
What is excluded from New India comprehensive car insurance policy?
Situations which are not covered under the New India comprehensive car insurance policy are Wear and tear of the car, Electrical or Mechanical breakdown, Damages caused to tyre, tube, or engine, Accidents occurred while driving without driving license, and Accidents occurred under the influence of intoxicants like liquor or drugs.
Can I transfer my car insurance policy?
Yes, you can transfer your car insurance policy to a new owner after filing a written request to the company following a process called ‘policy endorsement’. There is a nominal fee that is applicable in case of transfer of the vehicle.

Who decides the claim amount in case of an accident where a third-party suffered loss?
The claim amount is evaluated and decided by the court of law. However, New India Assurance car insurance provides unlimited coverage in case of death or injury (depending on the extent and severity of the injury sustained) and compensates third property damage expenses up tp Rs.7,50,000.
What amount will I have to bear during a claim settlement?
You will need to pay compulsory excess, liabilities on your part, also known as deductibles. The surveyor will report to the rest of the evaluated expenses to the company for further processing of the claim settlement process.
Do I need to pay anything at the garage for my car’s repair?
Yes, you need to pay your part of liability, while the company pays the rest. Moreover, in case of reimbursement claim settlement, you need to pay the entire amount for the time being but the company will reimburse its part later.
How much time does it take for claim settlement?
New India Assurance generally settles the claim instantly after completion of all formalities. However, in case of reimbursement claim settlement, the process may be extended for a few more days.
What if my car is damaged in a riot or civil unrest?
New India comprehensive car insurance policy covers damage imparted on the vehicle in a riot and civil unrest.
Zero Depreciation
Till when can I include the zero depreciation add-on cover in my car insurance policy?
You can include the zero depreciation add-on cover from New India Assurance Company Limited to your comprehensive or standalone own-damage policy till your car’s age is not more than 34 months.
What factors determine the premium price of the zero depreciation cover?
Factors that determine the premium price of zero depreciation add-on cover are as follows:
- Car’s age
- Car’s model
- Car’s registered location, etc.
When can I get zero depreciation cover added to my comprehensive car insurance policy?
You can add this zero depreciation coverage in your comprehensive car insurance policy at the time of purchase or renewal of your policy.
I have a liability-only car insurance policy. Can I add zero depreciation cover in it?
No, you can not add the zero depreciation cover to your liability-only policy. It can be added to only with comprehensive/standalone own-damage car insurance policy.
Can I add any other add-on cover with the zero depreciation cover in my policy?
Yes, you can include all the add-on covers offered by the New India Assurance Company Limited to your comprehensive or standalone own damage policy in addition to zero depreciation add-on cover.
