Star Health and Allied Insurance Decides Not to Have Different Premiums for Transgenders
Already striving to cover risks, health insurance companies are finding it even more difficult to insure vulnerable sections of the society, transgenders due to unavailability of proper health data.
Still, one of the leading health insurer Star Health Insurance and Allied Insurance has taken a conscious decision to not have different premiums for transgenders stating that it would be discriminatory on their part to charge a higher premium as that would discourage them from opting for an insurance cover.
Chief Operating Officer of Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd, S Prakash states, “We have been covering transgenders for the past six years and in FY19, have covered 45 people so far. While we do not go and advertise for them, we never decline them services if they want to buy any insurance policy from us”.
