Oriental Insurance, United India and National Insurance Are to be Merged
According to the initial plan announced in the union budget FY19, three state-run non-life insurance companies, Oriental Insurance Company, National Insurance Company and United India Insurance Company are to be merged together. The merger will happen soon. When this happens, all three unlisted entities will become one entity.
As per media reports, a group of ministers is likely to meet for drawing a road map for this two-phase merger of general insurance companies. The government is also willing to find out some possible ways to combine these three companies with minimum capital support and prevent the central exchequer from burdening.
Going further, the government had already announced the merger of Oriental India Insurance, National Insurance Company and United India Insurance Company in the Budget 2018 and directed them to make their operations more efficient and low cost. After the presentation of the budget FY19, the government is making a plan to merge these three companies with minimum capital support.
