General Insurance Employees Demonstration against Government Decision for Disinvestment
In the recent development, the government has rolled out various policies concerning the public sector. These include dismantling of public sector undertakings, the merger of 44 Labour Laws into 4 codes, the merger of four public sector general insurance companies instead of three, disinvestment in PSGI and many others. As a consequence, there has been a lot of agitation among the public sector general insurance and retired employees.
At Nagpur, the employees of GIEAIA, i.e. General Insurance Employees All India Association staged protest against these various policies. Slogans were raised against the government, and there have been countrywide demonstrations. One such demonstration was staged in front of the Oriental Insurance Company regional office situated at Chhindwara Road.
Addressing the agitated employees, Prashant Dixit, Working Committee Member of GIEAIA and Joint Secretary of GIEU (WZ) said that the government is paving the way for privatization in the name of disinvestment. He said the news laws and policies are in favour of corporates and all the employees of the public sector must unite and fight jointly for their rights. He also addressed the concerns about updation of pension, increase in family pension, and scrapping of National Pension System (NPS). A large number of PSGI employees and retired employees supported the cause and participated in the demonstration.
