COVID-19 Update: Over 23,000 Healthcare Workers Receive 2nd Shot of Covid-19 Vaccine
As per the recent data released by the Union Health Ministry, around 23,628 healthcare workers have got themselves vaccinated against the coronavirus as on February 13, 2021. The day marked 4 weeks since Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the vaccination programme in the country on January 16, 2021.
As per the data so far, 2.07 Lakh people were inoculated on the first day of the Covid-19 vaccination programme. They all were supposed to get inoculated with the second shot of February 13, 2021.
According to the Drug Controller General of India, the two approved covid-19 vaccines namely Covaxin and Covishield are to be administered 4-6 weeks apart. However, some international studies state that it would be more effective even when the 2 vaccine shorts are given 6-12 weeks apart.
Until 14 February, around 8.24 Million healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated with at least one dose.
The Health Secretary, J. Radhakrishnan appreciated the performance in the vaccination programme saying it was slow initially, but is improving each day.
In India, as of 14 February 2021, the total number of COVID-19 patients has decreased to 1.37 Lakh, which comes out to be around 1.26% of India's total Covid positive cases. The most number of cases are recorded from 6 states of which Kerala has been the highest with 5,471 new cases daily, followed by Maharashtra (3,611 cases) and Tamil Nadu (477 cases). In Kerala and Maharashtra, the number of deaths is in double digits, with 16 and 38 respectively.
