Yoga Poses to Boost Immunity During Lockdown

During quarantine, yoga became an essential part of the new-routine. Many yoga postures for beginners became popular. Lockdown made us stay confined in the four walls of our houses, and that led to people finding and trying out alternative ways to stay fit and healthy. Furthermore, gyms and public health clubs were shut down as a result of which gym and fitness-maniacs had to find an alternative that could replace their daily routine. Adding to this scenario, the pandemic imposed restrictions on the movement of people that caused social isolation. This gave rise to anxiety and stress among people during the lockdown. To counteract the adverse effects, the lockdown has on people incorporating yoga in the schedule can be a great course of action. Yoga Poses to Increase Immunity During the Lockdown

As a necessary precaution and to avoid any chances of contracting the contagious disease - COVID-19, some of these yoga poses could be practised daily to strengthen the immune system.

1. Bhujangasana (The Cobra Pose): The pose is done by placing the palms under the shoulders while pushing downwards until the hips are lifted slightly. The feet rest on the ground while the legs are outstretched, and the gaze is forward-directed. This pose helps to keep in shape and tone the abdomen and also to boost immunity.
2. Matsyasana (The Fish Pose): This yoga pose is a backbend pose, where the practitioner has to lie on his/her back and lift the heart chakra while rising on the elbows and pulling the shoulders back. In this pose, the neck is stretched, and the head is pointed towards the wall behind the practitioner. This pose helps energize the heart and lungs and also in relieving congestion. It also boosts the immune system in this process.
3. Pranayama: Pranayama is the practice to control breathing in yoga. It is done by synchronizing the movements with the breathing and is usually practised after having done other asanas. It has tons of benefits for the respiratory system and enhances blood circulation by overall improving the immunity.
4. Sukhasana: The Sukhasana is a simple sitting asana which is used for meditating by sitting cross-legged. It is an easy pose for straightening the spine and can also be practised by the people who have certain physical difficulties. It enhances heart-rate and is believed to reduce stress and hence boosts the immune system.
5. Uttanasana: This pose is a simple bending pose in which the practitioner touches the toes by standing and stretching forward. This pose is believed to clear congestion and improve blood flow. The mucus membrane and the sinus plays an essential role in protecting the body and boosting immunity.
6. Viparita Karni: It is a yoga pose practised by using a wall as support. The practitioner put his/her legs up the wall where he/she is upside down. Along with immunity, it also helps with fertility issues.
