Guidelines by the IRDAI for Coronavirus Claims
The pandemic has brought everything to a slow pace. Yet the treatment and healthcare facilities are stretched beyond measure to provide treatment and help to everyone in need. This is the time when people are depending a lot upon their health insurance providers, and the people affected due to this disease need the money flow to get treatment. This new disease doesn't have many norms made for dealing with these situations. The reduction in the working capacity of the various offices to enforce the social distancing norms has made the process of claims substantially slower. To tackle this IRDAI has come up with solutions.
Guidelines Issued By IRDAI For Covid-19 Claims
The guidelines that have been issued by the IRDAI contain something for every section of society, and these have taken special care of the existing health insurance cover holders. The guidelines include the following:
1. The regulatory body said the where coverage is given for the treatment expenses, in order to counter all the issues that the policyholder may experience, then all the coronavirus cases should be taken care of according to the following rules:
- In case the policy covers the hospitalisation charges, then the insurance companies should take care that the coronavirus related cases should be handled with speed and efficiency.
- All the treatment costs and all the medical expenses during the course of treatment including the recovery and healing during the quarantine period should be settled according to the terms and conditions that were there in the policy and the existing framework set by the regulatory authority.
- All the claims filed under the covid-19 issue shall be reviewed by the review committee thoroughly before the insurance company rejects these claims.
2. To cater to the needs of the health insurance market, the insurance companies are coming up with unique products to cover specific diseases and even the vector-borne diseases. It is advised to the policymakers to design products which cover the cost of the covid-19 treatment. The products have to be developed for every section of society.
3. The instructions that have been issued are under the provisions of the IRDA Act, 1999 – Section 14(2). The instructions will come in force immediately.
