India is known for its beautiful monsoons. These monsoons tend to bring around a lot of fog especially during the morning and evenings. Read this article to get tips on riding safely in foggy conditions.

Tips To Ride Your Bike In Foggy Conditions

Tips To Ride In Foggy Conditions

Fog is usually denser during monsoon and winters. These are also fantastic seasons to go riding and connect with nature. The dense fog increases the chances of being involved in an accident. This is mainly because of the largely decreased visibility and wet roads. Follow these tips to ride safely during these times-

  • Speed

Controlling your speed and riding slowly will help you to have better control over your bike. It is the first and foremost thing that you need to control while riding your bike in any situation. During a fog, keeping your bike speed controlled will help you to brake easily without skidding thus preventing a collision. Sometimes, skidding while braking causes more damage than collision. Thus, ensure to have a steady and slow speed while riding in foggy situations.

  • Proximity

Proximity refers to the distance between two vehicles. While riding in foggy situations, it is always advised to keep distance from the other vehicles. This is mainly because in case of sudden braking, your bike will not collide with the vehicle ahead of you.

  • Visibility

Fogs bring down visibility to a great extent. Take precautions like anti-fog glasses and helmets to ensure proper visibility. The lack of proper visibility can result in causing severe accidents. Thus, make sure to keep your bike visible too by switching on parking lights. This is because light tends to travel faster through fog making the presence of your bike known. Also wear reflective gear to be more visible.

  • Riding In The Left

Slow moving vehicles usually ply on the left. Riding on your left will clear the way for other vehicles and also provide space for proximity. Especially in two-way roads, riding on the left will provide space for the vehicles coming from the opposite side. Avoid overtaking and maintain a certain distance from the other vehicles on the road. Riding on your left will also provide enough space for other vehicles that try to overtake you. This will thus effectively avoid any possible collision.

  • Brake Lights

Break lights are flashing lights that light up when you apply brakes. These lights provide the other vehicles a warning when you apply brakes. Thus, the other vehicles can slow down or slightly change their course upon seeing the light. Make sure to turn this on while riding in foggy conditions.

  • Check Your Fuel

Before you start riding, make sure that you check your fuel tank. Ensure that it has an adequate amount of petrol to complete the journey. Having insufficient fuel can result in leaving you stranded in the middle of the road. Therefore, refuel your bike at the nearest petrol bunk before you start your journey.

  • Protective Gear

Wearing reflective jackets and a proper bright helmet will do you more benefit that you can estimate. Reflective jackets make it easier for other vehicles to see your vehicle on the road. A helmet will prevent any severe injury in case of collision. So make sure to wear your protective gear while riding your bike.

  • Bike Insurance

Having a bike insurance is mandatory in India according to the Motor Vehicle Act. Your bike could be your most treasured possession. Repairing it in case of damage is usually very expensive. Make sure to select the right bike insurance policy which offers maximum coverage at an affordable premium price to be financially safe.

Take Away

Riding a bike in foggy situations can be very dangerous. Make sure to ride carefully and follow the above mentioned tips to have a safe trip. Don’t forget to purchase a bike insurance policy that provides complete coverage for your bike and ride safely.
