A Registration Certificate or RC is a mandatory document required by all vehicle owners. The intent of this document is to act as proof that the vehicle owned is legally registered under a specific Regional Transport Office (RTO). As in an important document to possess, losing it may cause issues. Hence, it is recommended you keep duplicated. This can be done both via online and offline modes.
Reasons to get a duplicate may vary from a broken chip on the RC to missing or losing the RC altogether. Hence, the steps involved in its duplication will be outlined as a part of this article.
How Do I Go About Getting My RC Duplicated Offline?
To initiate the application for an RC offline, you would need to go to a police station near you, where you would be required to apply. That is, going to the police station nearest to where you saw your RC last. In addition to the application, you may choose to file an FIR online. Doing so ensures that you get a missing registration certificate challan for the RC you lost. The challan issued stands as a testimony of the vehicle RC being missing or lost.
Key details would have to be filled in, namely details such as :
- Name of the car owner
- The address of the car owner
- The vehicle’s chassis number
- Engine number of the vehicle
- The model and color of the car
- The registration number of the vehicle owned
- A copy of ID proof, address proof & the driving license of the vehicle owner that has been attested
Next, you would need to proceed to the RTO to submit the following:
- RTO form 26
- The copy of the FIR
- A Bank NOC
- The Chassis number of the vehicle
- ID proofs
- Pollution Certificate and an affidavit claiming loss of RC
What is the Online Process for Obtaining the Duplicate?
The following are the steps to be followed for the application of a duplicate RC online. Although, it is worth noting that all procedures limited to the application stage can be done online, post which you would have to visit the RTO.
- Post lodging an FIR, an application form would need to be filled out at the Parivahan Sewa website.
- Ensure payment is done of the fee online
- The generated slip along with the required documents would need to be submitted to the RTO
the following is a list of documents you would need when proceeding to the RTO-
- The original FIR or Police certificate
- A copy of a valid insurance certificate, proof of address, and a pollution certificate attested by the applicant
- In case it is a commercial vehicle, a challan clearance and a tax clearance need to be produced. They may be obtained from the traffic police & enforcement wing department and the accounts department respectively.
- Chassis and the engine number.
- An affidavit clearly states that the RC is missing and not seized or impounded.
The above set of copies would need to be attested by an MLA/Public Notary/Gazetted Officer. After all the documents have been verified successfully, the registering authority will issue the duplicate RC.
