Regional Transport Office (RTO)
Regional Transport Office or Regional Transport Authority also known as RTO or RTA is an Indian Government organisation. This organisation maintains a database of drivers and vehicles of different states in India. The Regional Transport Office issues the driving license. The Motor Vehicles Department was established under section 213(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998. The mortar vehicle department has the authority to impose several requirements of this act.
In India every state and city has their own Regional Transport Office. According to the act every RTO/RTA is responsible for carrying out certain roles and responsibilities. RTO keeps the record and monitors all the motor vehicles in different states. RTO ensures proper functioning of vehicles and safety while driving on roads.

- Imposing several rules and regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, CMVR Act or the Central Motor Vehicles Rules Act, 1989 and the State Motor Vehicles as stated by the Indian Government.

Registration Of Vehicle At Regional Transport Office
Registering your vehicle to obtain the number plate of your vehicle and getting the vehicle registered under the records of the government is known as vehicle registration. Any individual who wishes to drive the vehicle in the country must register his/her vehicle according to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. There are some documents that you will need in order to register your vehicle with the RTO. Below mentioned are the list of documents required to register your vehicle with the RTO:
- Application i.e. Form 20
- Form Number 21 (Sales Certificate)
- Road Fitness Certificate from the manufacturer by Form Number 22
- Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC)
- Address Proof, Age Proof and PAN Card (KYC documents for address and age proof)
- Passport Size photograph
- Insurance of the vehicle
- Customs Clearance Certificate for registration of an important vehicle
- Sales Tax Certificate
- No Objection Certificate from RTO
- Temporary registration number of the vehicle
- Invoice
- Form 34 in case of loan
Transfer of Vehicle Ownership at Regional Transport Office
One can easily transfer the vehicle ownership by the following ways:
- Application for transfer of vehicle ownership i.e. Form 29 and 30
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) to be obtained from the RTO
- Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
- Insurance certificate of the vehicle
- Application fees and road taxes
- Affidavit ( Stating the sale and purchase of the vehicle
- Address Proof, Age Proof and PAN Card (KYC documents for address and age proof)
- Passport Size photograph
