Bangalore Traffic Police Challan & Fines: Everything You Need to Know

The Silicon Valley of India is well known for its wonderful climate and its notoriously bad traffic. Bangalore has ranked consistently poor in terms of traffic congestion in both global and national indices for a long time. In such driving conditions, accidents are easy to occur. The Bangalore traffic police have, in recent years, adopted many technological tools to combat the traffic problem in the City. Electronic challans or e-challans are one of the ways in which the city traffic police keep track of offenders and traffic violations.

In this guide, we will take an in-depth look at what to do if you or anyone you know has received an e-challan from the Bangalore traffic police.

What Is An E-Challan?

Simply put, a traffic challan is a legal document issued by traffic police officers to individuals who violate traffic rules. These violations can include violations like speeding, jumping red lights, drunk driving, driving without a license, and many others. The e-challan is mapped to one's number plate or driving ID, and a notification is sent to the respective phone number. Each violation has a specific fine associated with it which can be paid online.

Bangalore Traffic Violations & Fines List

The Bangalore Traffic Police enforces strict traffic rules and regulations to ensure road safety. Most high-traffic crossroads in the city are equipped with infrared cameras to catch speeding cars and identify the ones that jump red lights. So the local authorities decided to curb the rates by as much as 80% on the 21st of September 2019. While the rates may have been reduced,  the laws in the city have definitely become stricter. The Bangalore Traffic Police are also known to consistently run drunk driving checks on the weekends and other public holidays, and spot fines may be issued during these checks.
