Do You Want To Know Tips to Ace Winter Motorbike Maintenance?

Winter is coming and many are excited at the arrival of their favourite season. While you enjoy the winter with all your favourite activities, do not forget your precious two-wheelers. While you put on winter clothes to feel comfortable, your motor-cycle will need special treatment as well. Moreover, the current pandemic will not allow you to wander much around the city and your motorcycle will stay at home most of the time. Hence, the motorcycles, which are machines, after all, will need your attention.

Tips To Take Care Of Motorcycle In Winter

You can take proper care of your motorcycle with a few simple steps and that too, without spending much from your pocket. Here are your tips:

1. Put Covers On Motorcycle

You need sweaters and your motorcycle needs covers, especially if they are parked outside, in the open. Clean your motorcycle dry, make sure there is no moisture and then cover the motorcycle. Water repellent spray can help you keep the motorcycle dry. You can buy the covers anywhere and they are quite affordable.

2. Take Care Of Your Battery

Sealed dry batteries do not need any maintenance other than charging. But if you have the old-style batteries, you need to be careful. Low temperature can increase the viscosity of the fluid inside the battery. If the fluid thickened, the current flow in the battery will be disrupted. In simpler words, the motorcycle will take longer to start. Make sure the battery does not get affected by the cold and keep the terminals clean.

3. Use Anti-freeze

During winter, the water in the radiator can freeze and the engine may take forever to start. Antifreeze can be of help in that situation. Readily mixed coolants and antifreeze are easily accessible in the market.

4. Take Care Of Your Fuel

Keep changing the oil from time to time because old oil can affect the engine. It may cost you some money, but it is better than having an engine that does not work properly. Using good quality oil with additives suited for the cold environment is helpful in winter.

5. Lubricate Chain And Other Moving Parts

Lubricating chain and other moving parts will ensure the smooth running of your motorcycle. The said parts can get rusty and if they do, they will not function properly. Instead of applying a huge amount of lubricant at once in a while, apply small amounts frequently. The best time is when the bike can sit still for some time. It will allow the substances to reach the gaps. You can use anti-rust sprays that are easily available.

6. Do Not Forget About The Tyre

In winter, the drop in the temperature can cause a drop in the tyre pressure. You need to keep a check on the tyre each time you take your motorcycle out on the road. Opt for a tyre change if you feel required.

Conclusion

Checking the motorcycle only when going out is not enough. Without proper maintenance, you cannot expect a good performance from your motorcycle. Keep regular check yourself and if something looks wrong, you can always take it to the garage.
