There's no denying that winter is difficult on your two-wheeler but that shouldn't deter you from heading out for a ride. You and your bike can endure everything winter throws at you with the correct maintenance and care, without the cold weather compromising your safety or performance. Read this article to know about some tips to maintain your bike in winter.

It's essential to keep your bike in good working order during the winter months if you want to have a safe and fun season. With snow, slush, and other debris on the roads, your bike will require a lot more upkeep to stay in good operating order than it would during the summer. When all that snow melts off your tires, it'll take a bit extra effort to keep your bike storage location clean.

Tips to Maintain Your Bike In Winters

Tips to Maintain Your Bike In Winters

Here are a few easy tips for keeping your two-wheeler in good shape during the winter months so that your ride remains enjoyable and your environment remains clean:

Check the Tires

You should always check your tires before and after every ride for damage, wear, and pressure. The pressure can drop by as much as 2 psi for every 10°C drop in temperature during the winter months, so check before going out.

Use High-Quality Antifreeze/Coolant

If your bike has a normal cooling system, fill it with high-quality, winter-ready coolant/antifreeze. Antifreeze with a low freezing point is required so that it does not freeze in the system while the two-wheeler is parked outdoors. Never substitute water for coolant/antifreeze, and be sure you check it frequently during the winter to ensure it's constantly full.

Maintain Chain Lubrication

Without frequent cleaning and lubrication, salt from damp roads will quickly corrode the chain. In the winter, begin cleaning and lubricating the chain after each ride to remove salt and debris and protect it from moisture and freezing.

Change the Oil and Filter

Starting your bike on cold mornings puts a lot of strain on the engine, therefore proper engine oil is necessary to lubricate and protect all the moving parts. To ensure that the engine is fully protected before winter arrives, you should replace the oil and the filter.

Spray Vulnerable Surfaces with Anti-Rust Spray

After washing your bike, treat sensitive areas like the brake discs, underbelly with anti-rust and corrosion spray. This forms a watertight seal and prevents corrosion.

After Each ride, Wash the Bike With a Hose

Salt can quickly damage sections of your bike, so hosing it down after each ride is one of the best ways to keep it in good shape over the winter. Clean the undercarriage, wheels, and any cracks or crevices where salt or moisture has gotten in. You don't have to entirely clean it, simply hose it down after each ride and clean it thoroughly every one or two weeks.

Take Away

It is important to take care of your two-wheeler at all times regardless of the season. It will help you in the long run. If you follow the above tips, you will protect your bike and yourself and can enjoy a good bike ride in the amazing weather.
