If you are a bike owner, you may have considered having your bike modified. This may be for aesthetic appeal, greater performance, or safety. Every bike owner’s priority is to have their bike performing well, while some may want to invest further to have it be extra safe and aesthetically appealing. Changes made to achieve this are known as bike modifications. These may have an impact on your bike insurance premium.

How Does Modification Affect Bike Insurance Premium?

Types Of Bike Modifications And Their Impacts On Your Two Wheeler Insurance Premium

1. Security Modifications

Security modifications are those which involve the installation of security devices on your bike, such as locks, alarms, or more. It is best to install those devices that are certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Known as devices which are anti-theft, or for the safety of your bike, they reduce the liability and risk undertaken by your insurance company when it comes to insuring your bike. This is because they reduce the risk of theft or damage to your bike. As a result, you will be able to pay a lesser bike insurance premium on your two-wheeler insurance.

2. Aesthetic Modifications

The function of aesthetic modifications for your bike is to increase its aesthetic appeal or give it a more distinct appearance. There are a lot of aesthetic modifications that you can make, such as changing the bike’s paint colour, adding fibre parts to give it a sporty look, or modifying its headlights. There are many advantages to aesthetic modifications such as making it look good, but there are risks too. It will make the bike more attractive to thieves, thus increasing the risk associated with it. It will also increase the bike’s market value. This will result in a higher premium for your bike insurance policy.

3. Performance Modifications

Performance modifications are those which will enhance your bike’s performance by increasing the speed or making the performance otherwise better or stronger. These will usually involve getting speed-enhancing mechanisms or fuel-efficiency systems installed on your bike Insurance companies will usually view these as increasing the risk and liability associated with your bike as it will make it more likely for higher speed to cause an accident. As such, the premium associated with your bike insurance policy will likely increase.
