This is the reason why the Indian government has made a mandate to prevent the installation of tinted glasses in cars as well as imposed a fine for the same. Furthermore, to prevent this kind of installation, some fines are also imposed for the use of tinted glass. This law was imposed on 19th May 2012 by the Supreme Court of India. 

How Much Tint is Legal in India?

There is a visibility criterion also attached that one must follow otherwise there will be a certain fine imposed. Listed below are the visibility criteria for the same:

  • The side glasses of the vehicle must have visibility of at least 50%
  • The rear and front glasses should have a visibility of at least 70%

How Much Is the Fine For Tinted Glass In India?

When it comes to the fine imposed for the use of tinted glasses, it is important to note that if this visibility criteria is violated for the first time, then the fine imposed for this is Rs. 100.

Many people think that the fine is nominal and thus often violates these rules. However, if you keep violating this rule then the fine only increases each time. The fine imposed when you violate this for the second time is Rs. 300.

For the third time, the fine imposed gets doubled, and so forth. Thus, it is very important to not use tinted glasses in your vehicle and avoid paying hefty fines.
