A Detailed Guide on the Different Types of Cars in India

Having only a single type of car can be very boring, but luckily there are many types of cars in different sizes and shapes from leading manufacturers in the world. Some of the most popular types of cars are as follows:

1. Sedan:

The Sedan is commonly found in many small families in India and many Indian companies manufacture sedans. The car is very comfortable and roomy indoors and has a separate boot. It features a three-box design with an engine (Front), cabin (middle), and a separate boot (rear).

2. Hatchback:

Hatchbacks are compact for city driving and come with a three-pillar design. The boot is integrated with the cabin and the rear door renders access to the boot. Some manufacturers of hatchbacks are Tata Nano, Maruti Swift, etc.

3. Coupe:

Coupes are two-door cars with a solid roof and a trunk. The term is also referred to four-door cars with low and sleek rooflines.

4. Sports Utility Vehicle SUV:

These vehicles are known for their off-roading capabilities, as they can ride over any terrain. They can accommodate more people and some good examples of sports utility vehicles are Mahindra Scorpio, Ford Endeavour, etc.

5. Multi-Purpose Vehicle or MUV:

These vehicles can transport up to 7 people at a time and also have the ability to carry maximum luggage. These vehicles are mainly used for commercial purposes to transfer office staff or tourists and have the best fuel efficiency and passenger-carrying capacity. Eg., Tata Sumo, Toyota Innova.

6. Convertible Cars:

These cars have retractable roofs and thus they can have two avatars as fancy open-top cars or as close roof cars. As the roof retracts and goes in the boot, they are small in size. Eg., Jaguar F type, Audi R8 soft top, Mercedes Benz SLK, etc.

7. Pick-up truck:

A pickup truck has both a passenger side and an open bed at the rear to load cargo. These are exceptional vehicles to transport both people and luggage together. They have an excellent on-road appeal, which makes them the most preferred form of transport. Pick-up trucks are not common in India and some examples of these vehicles are, Tata Xenon XT, Isuzu D-Max truck, etc.

8. Sports Car:

Sports cars are sleek, low to the ground, and are also expensive. They are both sporty and cool-looking convertibles that generally have two seats, and sometimes they have small rear seats as well. Examples of sports cars are, Ferrari 488 GTB and Aston Martin Vantage.

Bottom Line

Cars can also be differentiated based on their manufacturers and their price range. Making such differentiations helps people to pick up their best-preferred vehicles before buying and not merely choose them based on color or price.
