Unity in Action: InsuranceDekho Takes a Stand Amid Maldives-India Controversy

On January 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi created a buzz on Instagram with a seemingly innocent Instagram post. The post featured a mesmerising beach in Lakshadweep, along with a caption encouraging adventure seekers to consider adding Lakshadweep Island to their travel lists.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when three deputy ministers from the Maldives Ministry of Youth Affairs made negative comments about the Prime Minister's recent visit to Lakshadweep and India. One even went as far as connecting India to Israel through a post on X, (previously known as Twitter). Moreover, her colleagues suggested that Narendra Modi's Lakshadweep tour was aimed at ruining the tourism industry of the Maldives Island.

In response to the escalating tension, the Indian Government initiated discussions with the Maldives to address the issue. As a result, the Maldives Government decided to suspend the three deputy ministers as a measure to handle the situation.

And, in our nation and our leader’s interest, we at InsuranceDekho took a stand by announcing the suspension of travel insurance sales for the Maldives tour. Our product head, Yajur Mahendru, announced this initiative on LinkedIn via a post that reads 'We at InsuranceDekho have decided to immediately stop issuance of travel insurance to the Maldives on our platform. We stand united with our country and align with our nation's interests.

It's time to explore our island treasures, such as the beautiful Lakshadweep, that beckon with unparalleled beauty and charm.'

Mahendru even emphasized the need to explore India's island treasures, highlighting the enchanting beauty of Lakshadweep.

This decision shows InsuranceDekho's commitment to standing united with the country and promoting domestic destinations.
